Monday 2nd December - walk **** – Around Ipswich – sunny start then cloudy with rain.

Mag and I were meeting up with my sister in Ipswich town centre for an appointment at 10 so to avoid parking problems we left Felixstowe at 8.30 with our usual picnic and parked near Holywells Park. We then walked down to the waterfront with blue sky's at this point, all the boats had gone from the marina making it look very sad, I hope this is only temporary as the boats liked good on the water! Then up past Wolsey’s gate and up to the town hall to meet up with my sister and her partner, after the meeting we went a nice coffee shop, a very rare thing for us where I had a very nice sausage roll, no wonder we take our flask everywhere as things are so expensive! We had a nice chat before going our separate ways as we walked through the Butter Market one of Ipswich’s better shopping streets full of really old buildings but it did look very sad and run down with loads of empty shops, I can’t see town centres recovering as its so easy to buy things online these days, in fact we hate shopping and get everything on the laptop these days! The sun had long gone and we now had light drizzle as we headed back to the waterfront, we nipped into the Uni to use the loos and there was a nice art exhibition done by kids at local schools, some nice pieces too! Despite the rain we still headed to Holywells park despite the rain getting harder and the whole park was set up for Illuminate Ipswich, they have made a big effort with loads of lights but it is very expensive I am afraid :( our Granddaughter is going with her mum and dad later in the month, hope they have a great time and the weather is good! We were pleased to get back to the van as we had walked 4.50 miles and my heel was playing up, with the rain still falling we took our picnic to Levington Marina to eat it by the River Orwell in the gloom:)

PS - I was once again chuffed to get one of today's Holywells Park pics on BBC's Look East, got to love Gillian:)
